The Good Yeggs - Private Party 10/27/12 Goshen, New York

Joe rented a van and we took a little road trip up to his sister Terry's house in Goshen, New York to perform at her birthday celebration. The Yeggs played three mini sets and aside from faking our way through "Blue Suede Shoes" we also winged it on "Thats Alright Mama" and "Johnny B. Goode". It was a pleasure to play for the family and they fed us so well too.



Joe's nephew Joe provided us with his drum kit so all I brought was a few stands, Cymbals, Snare Drum and Gig bag.

The Good Yeggs - KJ Farrells 9/15/12 Bellmore, Long Island

We offered our services at the "Lets Rock and Roll for a Cure" charity concert for a worthy cause and played the middle set (going on around 3 p.m.) amidst 5 bands at K.J. Farrell's on Long Island. This is definitely a bar set up for bands as could be gleaned from the proper placement of the sound tech (opposite stage), Pop Wallpaper (Classic Rock Icons) and hanging TV monitors promoting upcoming gigs for various local cover bands so it was a nice room to play with an actual stage and small lighting setup, the hi-hat was miked for this event which was adequate and backline provided by Thomas' co-worker Gordon.

Premiered at this show was the Stevie Ray Vaughan classic "Texas Flood".

(L to R) - Spike, Fran, Thomas and Joe. It was nice to see Fran again after all these years (the last I saw her was in Thomas' band Heart & Soul in the late 80s) and she will be singing a few numbers with us at the next Good Yegg's show later this month.

 

There was a Buffet laid out that I attacked after our 50 minute set, pictured here is some nicely done Roasted Potatoes (6 o' clock) , Tasty Eggplant Parmigiana (11 o' clock) and some Chicken Francaise (2 o' clock).

Later in the day Thomas ordered KJ Farrell's Mozzarella Sticks that turned out to be the stretchiest the world has known, I still regret not getting a photo.

Later still Jamie made me Homeade Chicken Parmigiana and Broccoli Rabe Ravioli and this being the "Year of the Rabe" it was very fitting and Delicioso too.

The Way station is a sonically fit room with a stage that can barely satisfy one professional standup comic properly but we got ourselves plus amps and a drumkit up There and There was indeed room amongst Their dimensional stage offerings and They let us play so They're no Liars.

The Good Yeggs - Recording Session 8/4/12 HesDeadJimStudios Queens, New York

Besides for Thomas and myself, Thomas' cat Annie also graduated from Center for the Media Arts. In this photo she is troubleshooting a Line Buzz & Tender Vittles.

The Yeggs convened for a Saturday recording session (for Joe and Thomas it was a 12 hour marathon) in which lots of lead vocals from our previous session(s) were finalized (Me & My Monster, Build Me Up Buttercup) and new material captured like the elusive Pork Rind Of Yore (P.R.Y.). Today we picked three totally new unfamiliar original tunes and just went for a take.

Rhythm tracks and Percussion overdubs were laid down for the songs "Coming Loose", "Passing By" and "If You Want" with vocals on "Passing By" finalized.

Joe overdubbing a Rhythm Guitar part on "Passing By" with a Nylon 6 string Guitar between Pork Rind breaks.

I am particularly proud of this drum part as it came together without effort while remaining tasty in a pop sense. This instrumental bed reminds me of early 70s British Glam Rock.

Tonight we did a Good thing as Yegg's and sallied forth to the hinterlands of Park Slope, Brooklyn to offer our wares and leave wake of our sound oscillations as captured via microphone to reproduce via plastic digital disc.

We dropped off our Demo CD at Two Boots Pizza and The Tea Lounge and it was nice to talk and snack (if thats a snack then whats for dinner ?) with my bandmates setting our eyes on booking some gigs for the fall.

Quite Possibly the most uncomfortable chair ever fabricated by humankind was at the bar at the Tea Lounge and there were two of them.

The Good Yeggs - Recording Session 7/10/11 HesDeadJimStudios Queens, New York

The band reconvened to HesDeadJimStudios and recorded six tracks for upcoming release and we are very pleased with the results. Thomas has yet to record finalized Guitar/Keyboard tracks so there is more to come.

Stand - Out track of the day had to be "Bad Things" since the tune is only three days old to us keeping the arrangement super loose and down to instinct and feel, committed to hard drive by take two and I had a chance to overdub an "atmospheric" cymbal/mallets track for "spooky" mood.
Thomas and myself had never even heard Joe's song for his father-in-law "Gentle Bill" and next thing we knew the rhythm track was recorded and we were in the isolation booth double tracking the "barroom singalong" chorus (as seen in the photo above).

"Let The Sun Go On" has been in the repertoire of late but Thomas had envisioned a "Double Drummer" sound for the recording
requiring me to record myself over the existing Drum Track and mimic "ME" the best I can, off I went into my headphone world and had a Blast that I really only could share with myself as it happened. On Playback the sound of two Drum Kits & sets of Hi-Hats just out of sync by a millisecond (well, in my case probably a Hundrasecond) sounds very Classic Spector/Visconti/George Martin to my ears and I cannot wait to hear final mix on this one.
Tom had sent us an MP3 track via email that we were also three days new to and that was "Arent You Glad" which is indeed a Bouncy Song, we used the Ukulele Track (take 15) as our guide/root track.
"I'll Never Lie To You" has been a favorite to play for me the last two months or so and it was great to finally commit to a definitive recording.

We did record Loretta Lynn's "Have Mercy On Me Baby" and ironically this was the song that took us the most takes to capture but wound up being a "Live" number which did not adapt as well to the "studio version" as the other tunes did, I do look forward to playing this live though.

Joe and Thomas sound Musically astute and assured as ever on these recordings as we continue to grow as bandmates and musicians.

The Good Yeggs - Annual Christmas Concert - 12/22/10 The Tea Lounge Brooklyn, New York

Tis the season for my musical families to celebrate the Holiday's yet again and like always its a pleasure to see these familiar faces of former bandmates and fellow musicians. The one thing we all have in common is that we do this because we love this and there is no other substitute for performing music in a live setting amongst longtime friends and peers alike. I am humbled to share the drum stool with two of my fellow percussionists for many, many years namely Michael Roberto and Joe Gucciardi.

Christine, Daniella and Nadia sounded absolutely superb and harmonious throughout the nights performances and ALL of the bands played solid sets. I wasnt able to capture any photos of Speedo or Box of Crayons as i was busy doing "Jager Shots" over by the bar but it was great hearing them perform some festive classics.
