The Good Yeggs - Three Jolly Pigeons 6/9/12 Brooklyn, New York

The Yeggs got to play on the same bill as Black Death and Baby Daddy Project "Let It Be That" (The Let It Be album in its entirety) at Bay Ridge's Three Jolly Pigeons and I got to see some old friends of mine as well, Sweethook was in attendance too. We played a tight set loosely and Jazelyn helped us out with backing vocals on "Another Brooklyn". Premiered tonight was the Stevie Ray Vaughan classic "Texas Flood" to which afterwards John the Bass Player yelled to Thomas "Your saving that for the Yeggs !!!" referring to the tasty 16 bar Blues guitar solo Thomas took.

 

One of the things our rehearsal space is known for is the authentic railroad tie which we use to keep the bass drum sedentary and that is also quite heavy. Thomas forgot to bring the dumbbells along (the metal "weight" kind) so we transported the "tie" on the roof of Thomas' car, Fortunately and Luckily no one got hurt and I am referring to the other cars and innocent bystanders.

Previous to the gig Joe, Marco and myself stopped off a few doors down at Panchos for some authentic mexican food. I chose from the extensive menu and after asking Joe what a "Carnita" was (spanish for Pork) decided on Tostadas (2 for $6.00) one Carnitas (Pork), one Tinga (Spicy chicken) and a Lime Jarritos Soda. I Absolutely Loved the first Tostada (we think it was the Tinga but not sure) which had just the right hint of Cilantro and was piled high with ingredients atop a most durable and crunchy Tostada but there was something I didn't care about in the meat on the second one, it was kind of sticky and that reminds me a little of Pork Chops so I am assuming that was the Carnita. Either way I could eat here every day of the week.

Sweethook/Baby Daddy - R Bar 1/21/11 New York City

Sweethook played a solid set at the R Bar and so did Baby Daddy who gracefully supported us. I came to the realization of the comfort zone of which I am drumming in since my gigs have been so plentiful this month, a comfort zone that can slip away all too easily if I stop playing regularly. Nice crowd came down to support us and I thank Michael (Baby Daddy) for letting me use his Cymbals.

Our first full gig was a good time. Becker Brother Joe sat in on Sax and Jazelyn (Sweethook) helped us out on "American Crank". It was nice to use a vintage Slingerland kit accompanied by the DW snare drum and the mounted rack tom was mounted on a snare stand giving it that sweet spot. Thanks very much to Baby Daddy and Thomas for inviting us along. Songs premiered at this gig were "Come The Light Of Day", "Stranger Coming To Town" and our version's of "That's Alright Mama", "Blue Suede Shoes" and "I'm Only Sleeping"

The Good Yeggs - Annual Christmas Concert - 12/22/10 The Tea Lounge Brooklyn, New York

Tis the season for my musical families to celebrate the Holiday's yet again and like always its a pleasure to see these familiar faces of former bandmates and fellow musicians. The one thing we all have in common is that we do this because we love this and there is no other substitute for performing music in a live setting amongst longtime friends and peers alike. I am humbled to share the drum stool with two of my fellow percussionists for many, many years namely Michael Roberto and Joe Gucciardi.

Christine, Daniella and Nadia sounded absolutely superb and harmonious throughout the nights performances and ALL of the bands played solid sets. I wasnt able to capture any photos of Speedo or Box of Crayons as i was busy doing "Jager Shots" over by the bar but it was great hearing them perform some festive classics.

The Joe FranklinS - Three Jolly Pigeons 1/30/10 Brooklyn, New York

The Joe FranklinS performed a loose but Rocking set to a very appreciative crowd at the Three Jolly Pigeons. We tried our hand at the old Sub Basement Blues Band number "Going To Meet The Man" for the first time in 25 years and Jazelyn (of Sweethook) joined us for our cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy". Joe from the band that played before us plugged in and joined us for "American Crank" (uninvited but spirited) and the crowd became so spirited that we were asked to encore which we did with an impromptu jam on the Blues standard "Key To The Highway". Thanks for taking the pics Jamie.

Poskapalooza - Hank's Saloon 9/26/09 Brooklyn, New York

John the Bass Player posed the question "Can Franklin get through three sets with three different bands?" and the answer is a resounding YES. We had a great room full of love and friends, always a blast when you know just about everyone in the place.



The Joe Franklins opened the evening with a loose set of original material and covers of "Thats Alright Mama", "Crazy Arms" and "Sitting on top of the world". Scott Cornwell provided blistering slide guitar to our tunes and Steve Wortman donated some tasteful harp work for a few numbers. Check out their band with Joe at myspace.com/acousticonset.

Baby Daddy delivered like they always do with a tight set of original material and twin lead guitar attack only to surprise me with an encore of "Whipping Post" (I peeked at their setlist prior to their showcase) and it was a pleasure reuniting with my Becker Brother Joe after eighteen years apart. He was a great drummer then, Hes an amazing drummer now.

Speedo closed the show with a tight and funky set of Blues tunes, I was so transfixed that I didnt take any pictures and my pint languished sitting on the bar. A real bunch of top notch players and I could only be proud knowing three of them personally.

Franklin made it through the evening with style and grace and with the fun we all had and a moniker like Poskapalooza lets hope we do one every year.

A Great time was had by all (especially Chris) at this classic old school Irish pub as the Joe Franklin's, Box of Crayons and Baby Daddy graced the corner (pronounced stage) by the Dr. Who T.A.R.D.I.S. restroom and peeled off tune after tune pleasing the crowd and getting a drunk girl so crazed with wild abandonment resulting in her ejection from the premises.

Thanks to Baby Daddy and Box of Crayons for inviting us and holding these shindigs from time to time. Cant wait for the next one.
